Question regarding XML RPC script you wrote ages ago.

Hi David, I'm trying to use your XML RPC Script you wrote a long long time ago (way back in 2000). I'm abit of a newb and im wondering how to use it if I need to use a proxy to connect to the xml rpc server that I need to send a command to.

Re: xml-rpc proxy

Not necessarily, but sometimes. It's a bit rusty to be honest. Most people use SOAP these days. You may need to install IE. The key is the MSXML component and the version on that. That could be the problem.

Not much help, I know.

Errors when trying to use getCourseBackups

David,

First, thanks again for these great utilities. I just downloaded the utils again and tried to run them so I could backup courses before doing a large removal of old student accounts. The getCourseIds script ran fine, but when I did getCourseBackups, I got errors on line 68, char 3, "Object required: 'document.forms(...)', code 800A01A8, source Microsoft VBScript runtime error.

I installed the most recent scripting host (5.6) for XP, as I don't think I've ever run these scripts on this machine. Still got the same error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Backup courses

Dean,

If you are version 6 or above, there is a backup script in your tools/admin sub-directory of the Blackboard installation. That is the best option.

That said, I have updated versions on this site.

Archiving Scripts

David,

We have been using your archiving scripts for awhile with great success. Since we moved to Enterprise 6.3, the archiving script no longer works, giving us a page cannot be displayed error for each course. No list of links to archive files is generated.

The get course id script and the course export script still work great. Any ideas off the top of your head? We run a two box configuration now, and before we were on a single box when the scripts were working.

Thanks,

Archiving scripts

Mike,

They should still work, but in 6.x there are backend archiving scripts on the server that you can run too.

The problem is more likely an IE update/security issue. Have you downloaded the versions on this site?

Quick Question...

Will the codes you developed to prevent copying and printing quizzes/tests in BB5 work in BB6?

Prevent copy/print in 6

Peter,

Yes. I recommend that they are put in the test Instructions in HTML mode.

Prevent students from copying and printing tests

Hi David:

I am trying to prevent my students from selecting and printing the test questions. I followed the instructions but it is not working. I am using BB6.0. I put the script into the test instructions as you mentioned above. Previously I inserted the script with the last question. Is there more instructions available for me to read? Is the complete script available some place? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
